Asian Hate

As I read the comic, They Call Us Enemy, I realized that the Japanese were discriminated against for something that had nothing to do with them. In the comic, we see the lives of a Japanese-American during WWII. Their normal lives were taken away and they were forced to live in concentration camps, closed off from the rest of the world. As I continued to read more and more, I couldn’t help but feel terrible for these Japanese-American families who worked so hard to make a living just for it to be taken so easily from them. “Wow,” I thought, “I’m so glad I wasn’t Japanese in America during this time.” I was grateful to live in today’s society, a society where people weren’t discriminated against just because of their race. Then I thought a little deeper. Racism isn’t as bad today, as it was back then, but it still occurs. Almost every day I hear about an Asian hate crime on the news and almost every day nothing changes.

Why?

Why is racism still occurring?

This racism continues to occur because people feel superior than others just because of the color of their skin, which I find extremely unreasonable. I hope things change in the future and I hope racism stops.
