How racism has changed over the years.

The world has developed and changed in just a hundred years. This goes with technology, healthcare and civilization as a whole. Yet, racism has still been a problem and a topic in life today. It has been a problem for people for hundreds of years. Just two years ago the problem was the worst during the pandemic. Where people already felt awful with everything spreading around, and the uncertainty of Covid-19.

In the graphic novel They call us enemy, it shows the life of a Japanese American family during world war two when pearl harbor was bombed. Every Japanese person was taken from their homes and forced into concentration camps. Many people living in America wanted to lock up all Japanese people. This made me think of how racism has affected the world today. Japanese people today in America are definitely not harmed by racism as much as the past in the world wars. But, they are not completely out of the realm of not being affected in America.

Japanese people are not the only people affected by racism. There are many articles as well that show that almost everyone in America has been affected by racism from another person. Asians, black, and pacific islander people have all been affected by racism. There are ways to stop and spread news about a racist and hurtful act through the website known as Stop AAPI hate. You can report incidents to the website in all different languages. Allowing people that are a part of different communities to still be able to report an incident. Plus you can see all the latest news about racism in communities.

This site with news and many other sites have given me an idea of how people have combated racism in today’s age. With technology giving people the ability to spread news and information faster than ever, nobody is oblivious to what is happening against societies and oppressed citizens in a country. Racism is still in the world today. It is not as bad as one hundred years ago though.
