A Past memory

When I was a little girl, my parents would always tell me about their past memories back in Vietnam. They lived a life where they were able to have fun and live freely. However, those childhood memories began to fade away. When they were around 8 or 9, both my Mom & Dad both fled to the United States, where all of their dreams crumbled. Both my Mom and Dad were driven out their homes by communists, people that would take all of their money. They had to face the realities of the world, a world with hardships and struggles along the way.

While being able to step foot of all the difficulties when it comes to racisms, was new to them. In “They Called Us Enemy,” I feel like this novel is able to correlate to what my parents experienced while living in the States. It was able to tie in the difficulties Japanese- Americans faced while living in the states– racism. The discomfort it brought to all ethnicities signifies the real world problems today. No matter how much we try, there will always be racism.

From what I recall on, “They Called Us Enemy,” is able to touch Asian- Americans hearts due to all of our past generations for wanting a better future for their kids. And In fact, it really did help our generation. Our parents allowed us to be able to have a roof under our heads, and being able to step foot to the outside world with ease. I feel grateful for my parents, for going through struggles with many things just to be where they are now.

These are all of my cousins :))

But looking back, I will always strive to be like my parents. They are my role models now and even later on in life. They helped guide me to where I am today, and I am beyond grateful for the opportunities they gave me. And I hope, one day, one day where I am able to have a big achievements for my kids to have a roof underneath their heads.
