Pathos – Horror is included as one of the most gripping, hair-raising, stimulating subcategories amongst the vast array of genres. It has the ability to induce all kinds of different emotions on almost every spectrum. Even so, why do we continue to watch horror movies despite the fright it provides us? If you isolate this topic and put it out of context, it sounds ridiculous to desire such daunting entertainment. However, there are valid factors as to why this is so. Psychologically, we love the thrill, catharsis, and curiosity, and it may even provide a space or source of escapism. Unusually, we dislike the state of fear, yet we are attracted by the feeling evoked after. Through catharsis, we might even endorse ourselves in such frightening movies because it allows us to vent negative emotions. Similar to the ejection of a disk, this entertainment genre allows for the disposal of turbulent, hostile emotions. Furthermore, horror movies could give us a sense of enjoyment of pleasure, being able to witness the antagonist fail in the end, usually.

Logos – Subsequently, if you love horror movies like American Psycho, Orphan First Kill, or even animes/mangas like Death Note, you’d love The Graveyard. All these sources contribute to the same niche, being graphic and mysterious. It features interesting topics, allowing the audience to engage in what they’re watching. Furthermore, themes are bounced around throughout these media, such as, the differences and symbolism between light and dark which is heavily showcased in Death Note. Additionally, with the comic’s abrupt opening of a murder, it revolves around life and death, similar to American Psycho. Moreover, the central narratives of this comic can be seen in multiple forms of entertainment, proving itself a versatile and compelling read.

Kairos – Undoubtedly, horror is timeless and it never fails to amaze. Despite horror genres having a jittery stigma surrounding them, there are multiple factors that outweigh this con. Take for example, as mentioned before; the feeling of catharsis. Additionally, fear plays a large role in humanity and just about everyone is afraid of feeling uncomfortable. Hence, this genre does a great job of encompassing the audience’s attention, leaving them hooked and wanting more. To add on, if you were to take a deeper look and magnify the reasoning behind certain scenes in horror, multiple themes that stray away from terror are displayed such as light-hearted themes like romance and comedy. Therefore, horror can be fit for any one.

All in all, if you consider yourself an adrenaline junkie, this comic may be fit for you.
