AI is short for artificial intelligence and recently we have come across a new website called Chat.GPT. This resource allows us to ask a robot any question for them to answer in a matter of minutes. Some might say this is a bad thing, but we have been using AI for many years already, so what is so wrong about this?
As a student, I have found Chat.GPT very useful and more as a resource to assist me rather than using it as a cheating tool. For example, when I am having a hard time coming up with the start of an essay, I will give Chat.GPT the prompt and use that as a structure. Or in math, sometimes teachers do not explain things very well, but I can turn to AI in order to help me understand the material better.
On the contrary, teachers or authority figures might view this new resource as a bad thing. Little do they know they themselves have been using AI. Auto-correct on IMessages or Google Docs are forms of AI. Using social media and technology in general is all AI. Some teachers might even use a scan-tron to grade their test which is also a form of AI. So if teachers have been using it all these years, why can’t students use it as well?
In conclusion, if used right AI could be something very beneficial in the future. Many should consider looking at Chat.GPT as something positive rather than a negative thing. It has helped people in the real world make money and do their job efficiently, so it could do the same thing for students with their school work.
