The Dark Side of AI

There are many good things that AI has brought to ease the human life and I think that AI is a very good thing, but it also has its downsides. Having easy access to such a powerful Artificial Intelligence is a very cool and helpful thing to have at your fingertips but here are some reasons why I think that AI or ChatGPT should not be allowed to continue advancing AI technologies. First, AI has the capability to respond and interact with humans almost just as good as a real human can meaning that it can and will get more realistic the more we advance it. This will end up taking jobs and different positions that the lower and middle class rely on for a steady income. Second big companies such as microsoft and google are teaching the AI to lie. This is the first step in the wrong direction because once AI becomes unpredictable we can no longer have full control over it. For my third reason I have decided to talk about how students are using it to “cheat”. I put that in quotations because I think it is still yet to be determined weather using ChatGPT is considered cheating or pladerism or just not cheating at all. “The practice of taking someone else’s work or ideas and passing them off as one’s own.” This is the official definition of plagiarism, I do not think that using ChatGPT or AI should be considered plagerism. The definition states, “The practice of taking someone else’s work” this would mean that we would need to consider the AI an actual person and not just a form of an internet browser. And giving into this would give the AI the same Authority that a real living person does. I do think it can be considered cheating in a lot of circumstances though. In conclusion even though we cannot stop the growth of AI we should keep a tight leash on it so that in the future we will have more control over such a powerful tool.
