I believe every day that people must go out of their way to be kind because humans are naturally selfish and hurtful. It is a lot easier to be mean, rude, and not help someone out compared to being nice. That is the reason there is so much hate and greed in the world around us today. Look at the news there is only bad news…except for the weather, but that is also sometimes bad news. Throughout history, this is proven countless times with groups of people being persecuted and hated for almost no reason at all. For example, the book, They Called Us Enemy, takes place during WWII when all the Japanese people were moved to camps because they were said to be enemies of the country even though they were US citizens. The Takei family was moved from their home and moved to the camp Rohwer War Relocation Center for internment in Rohwer, Arkansas. The family did nothing wrong, were US citizens, and we’re a normal loving family, but they were accused of being spies constantly, hated, and were said to be dangers to the country. This is an example of hatred towards a group of people because it was easy to blame them due to the war even though they all sided with the US they were treated poorly. The thing about a man being naturally selfish and hurtful is that the strong will do anything to spark change and push to invoke a new life for the future. A man named Andrew Okumoto explains his life in the Camp in Topaz in the video Winter in Topaz by Andrew Okumoto. He tells the story of how rough life was, but his dad was tough and learned to become a carpenter to fix up the house to prepare for winter. He also explains how hard winter was in the tiny shack with awful living conditions. Listening to stories like this gives me hope for people. People may be hurtful, but the people who are tuff and kind overpower and rise above. The people who rise above are the people who are real heroes, who make a difference without even realizing it. Hopefully reading this you can push to be strong and even if it seems like being kind to people isn’t important you can make someone’s day which is worth the world.
