How I Survive
One of the first challenges of my life was learning how to walk. In order to walk I had to first learn how to crawl. The key to crawling was moving your knee and arm at the same time. After mastering crawling, I was then able to learn how to walk and master that as well, step by step. My mindset as a child was to break down my challenges so that I could understand them.

My Challenge
Many of the adults around me did not know about my technique for conquering my problems which is why they always got into problems of their own. At the time, I thought “Grown-ups are so strange.” I then went on to play with my toys and prepare to go to school for the next day. At school, my teacher introduced a new activity to me and my classmates: tying our shoelaces. When I first saw them, I froze. “How could I tie a string together to attach it to my foot? How is it even possible to make knots with string?” At the time, I forgot all about my strategy because I was scared and overwhelmed. However, I eventually managed to overcome my challenge and learn how to tie my shoes.

Looking Back
Looking back at my childhood now, I realize that the way I overcame challenges and thrived in my environment was what many people, including me, needed in our lives. The way problems are approached and looked at really helps in solving them. Nowadays, whenever I have my struggles, I think back to when I learned to tie my shoelaces and become proud of myself for surviving and thriving in life. I survive and thrive in my environment by breaking down my challenges bit by bit so that I can tackle them easily.
