As a child, I already knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wanted to become an architect and design buildings! This has always been my dream growing up, and whenever family or elementary school projects would prompt me for my future career, I would always give the same response. Although I don’t currently pursue this goal, it was a major influence during my childhood and contributed to my future career goals today.
During my elementary school years, EVERYONE was into Minecraft, and it’s still a widely popular video game today. I remember playing Minecraft on my dad’s old Xbox 360 in the living room and it was so entertaining to play. But it was the way I played Minecraft that incorporated my dream of becoming an architect. In Minecraft, you can build whatever you desire with materials and blocks within the game. Utilizing these, I was able to create and design houses and buildings. This is what really sparked my interest in architecture. Everyday, I would wake up at 5 in the morning and boot up my Xbox to play Minecraft, simply for the aspect of building. Now that I recall, I was really determined and passionate about my craft. In my opinion, my building designs were actually pretty good for a 5th grader and were quite clean if I say so myself. I was captivated by suburban and modern looks, which had an influence over my builds. I even took interest in looking up Minecraft home designs on YouTube and following the tutorials step by step. As a result, I was able to create a world full of my creations.

By playing Minecraft, it was able to facilitate my goal of becoming an architect to new heights. I was taking a step further towards my dream. Even if I didn’t fully realize it at the time, I was already an architect, in the game of course. Block by block, I spent hours on the game, engrossed in the beauty of architecture. It was always so satisfying to complete a build, and just admire it and the effort I put into it.

Architecture has always been my passion during my childhood. Looking back, I still believe that becoming an architect would be cool. Today, whenever asked about what I want to be when I grow up, I end up undecided. Stemming from my previous goal of becoming an architect, I’ve considered interior design, but my father has always wanted me to become a doctor and bring in a high income. Even if it may not be in my best interest, I believe that it could be an option, especially since science is one of my strong suits. A career in the medical field, such as a nurse would be interesting, but I would never forget my initial goal of becoming an architect, and all of the ideas that I integrated into a single video game.
