My Favorite Show: One Piece

One Piece is one of my favorite stories of all time, though I can’t say much, as I’m only just starting in the very long show, every episode is amazing and makes me fall in love with the show even more. From its characters to the world itself I am completely hooked on One Piece.

I think something that makes One PIece so entertaining is the variety of characters, as the Straw Hat Pirates travel through their world island to island, they meet many fun and interesting characters.

One of my favorites that they’ve met so far is Bon Kurei/Clay, who can disguise himself as anyone he’s met and uses a fighting style of ballet kicks. He’s first introduced as a friend, then enemy, and friend again. After he is defeated by them, he helps the straw hat crew in escaping an island surrounded by enemies by hiding their ship. Bon Clay once says, “…Because he’s my friend, that’s all the reason I need!” Which shows his ideas of friendship and care. The straw hat pirates themselves are a wide variety of characters, ranging from Monkey D. Luffy, the main character and captain who is a complete goofball, and a cold swordsman first mate Zoro.

The world building in One Piece is one of the best in any book, movie, or show I’ve ever seen. The world feels completely alien, there’s a lot of rules and features introduced, like the world itself, divided by a strip of tall mountains called the red line splitting the seas into four parts and the mysterious Grand Line. As well as the rules of the devil fruits people eat to gain powers, but it all seems so fluid and learning about how all these things work makes you feel like you’re there, learning about the mysterious world.

One Piece has a lot of themes, but one of the main themes is dreams. We see many characters’ dreams throughout the series, Like Luffy’s dream to become king of the pirates, Nami’s to make a map of the world, or Chopper’s dream to cure every disease. A huge message is that people should be free to follow their dreams, as well as that their dreams should be beneficial to themselves and others, and not aim to hurt anyone.
