How Games Died over the years

How a few games died

I just wanted to talk about how a few games died. It has been on my mind for a while and I wanted to get it out of my head. So I wanted to talk about Titanfall, Fall Guys, Overwatch, and PUBG.

How did Titanfall 2 die

Titanfall 2 did not even get the chance to get the popularity it deserved. Since Titanfall 2 died the moment its game was even released. Titanfall 2 is a fast paced fps which included titans that players were able to control to fight other players. It was unique and almost no other game that was similar to it was this good. But one thing that never let things see the day of light was the day the game got released. Titanfall was released on October 28, 2016 but other games were released around the same time such as Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Fifa 17, BioShock,Final fantasy XV, etc.

Since Titanfall 2 released around the same time as the long awaited games it did get talked about as much as the others. This made the game have a low player base of around 20,000 players playing it since it started. These players were very loyal to the game and would play almost every single day if they got the chance to. But as the game goes on the player base just got smaller and smaller making the player base around 10,000 players as of 2022. What made the player base go down was the DDoS of the servers and the people doing the DDoS which made the game unplayable to a lot of users.

Another big part of it was that there were no updates to the game as the people who made the game went on to make another game, Apex legends. So Titanfall 2 was left behind. As of right now one of the developers of the game fixed the servers and got rid of all the people making the game unplayable. Since then the game has gotten a bit more players. Right now Titanfall 2 is doing a lot better compared to the years of 2019-2022.

How Falls guys died

Falls guys did an interesting take on the battle royal genre instead of the generic 100 players, only one survives. Falls guys did something a little different and made the players face off in minigames, which made the players into enemies or into teams depending on the minigame. Fall guys were doing great having over 100s of thousands of players playing it. But one thing that made the players go down was the lack of content.

Falls guys had a lack of content which made the player base drop. Fall guys had around over 40 different minigames which was a lot, but the players were able to do all of them in the first few months of the game. And on top of that Fall Guys did not add any major updates to its game like a season 2 of the game or more minigames as they were focused on the bugs and making the server larger for the game.

Another thing that the developers had to deal with was hackers. The hackers in the game were ruining the game for the rest of the players and made a bunch of people not play the game anymore. The hackers were very annoying because the game had just come out a few months and the hackers were ruining everything.

As the time went on the player base became smaller and when they made a big update their player base went higher but it was slowly going back down. The lack of content killed Fall guys. Even though they have a large player base it is not the same as it first started.

Why Overwatch 2 died

Overwatch 2 did not do so great compared to its game that was made before which was overwatch. Overwatch 2 was supposed to get this big thing coming to its game which was its new PVE(player vs environment) system that they were adding. Blizzard, the company that made Overwatch cancel the PVE but still released the game. So Blizzard did not add the PVE system on the release time that Overwatch 2 was coming out. Instead the game only had reworks on the heroes and only added 6 new heroes over the course of over a year. Players were mad because the PVE was not added and all they did to the game was rework characters and added new ones.

They also removed maps and gamemodes but only added one new game mode. Overwatch 2 also added a battle pass system and made things like skins cost way more than they need to be. Until around the start of summer they released their PVE system. The PVE cost 15 bucks to play and was only around 30 minutes of gameplay on the hard difficulty. These are some of the major ones for overwatch 2 but I wanted to add a few small things that players got mad at.

One small thing a majority of players were mad at was that they changed 6 players vs 6 players to 5 players vs 5 players. What made Overwatch different was that they did 6v6 instead of 5v5 or 10v10. Since it is now 5v5 it would go tank, dps, dps, healer, healer instead of tank, tank, dps, dps, healer, healer. Which changed the way of how the game plays now. Another one was loot boxes, in overwatch Players were able to get loot boxes which can give you skins, cosmetics, etc. When overwatch 2 was released they removed loot boxes and so any unopened loot boxes were now opened. They removed them and made everything behind a paywall making things over-expensive. One last thing was the lack of content, although it did get updates the updates were underwhelming and did not give much.

PUBG is slowly dying

PUGB might have been the first to do the battle royale genre as it was very popular since it was something that was not very seen in the gaming community before fornite or apex legends. PUBG had a ton of players playing, making around over 1.2million players before 2022. The peak of its player base was around 3.2 million which was around 2018. What made it so popular beside being a battle royale genre was that it was able to be played on mobile which means you can play it anytime you want.

As anything this was the go to game to play because it was action packed. But during mid 2017 was when fortnite came out. It was a battle royale like PUBG but it did news things and made a few things a little better. Once fortnite came out it was a hit and almost everyone started playing it. PUBG was mostly just left behind and is now played in Asia with China being around 64% of the player base left in PUBG. After the years while Fortnite was getting popular PUBG was losing more players as its updates were good. It was a slow process.

Then another one hit which was Apex legends. Another good battle royale game that gave a fresh new thing to the battle royale genre. That game made PUBG lose more players. As of today PUBG only has around 100,000-300,000 players still playing to this day. That seems like a lot but not as much as it used to be in its glory days.

Conclusion about those games

The conclusion is that these games mostly end in the same way. The updates were bad or the updates were inconsistent making the playing the game get bored over time. Other things like better games coming out or getting released at the wrong time. This is just something I wanted to talk about and I hoped you had a good read.
