Why Music is My Life

Sometimes, I feel like I can hear musical notes through ordinary sounds. From the interval ringing of a school bell to the ding of a toaster, everything can make notes. Many sounds in everyday life are bland and uninteresting; however, beautiful sounds can touch the heart. Beautiful sounds are like the chirp of a bird at sunrise, the cheerful chime of a bell, or melodic voices. To me, good music is the most beautiful sound there is.

My parents recognized my love for music when I was about 6 years old and I was forced to play the piano. It was a struggle for me to learn piano because I could not play the notes properly; every song I played was like a horrible cacophony of cawing crows. I practiced for many years to improve my piano skills. It was very difficult for me to learn how to read notes and play them properly, or how to move my stubby fingers fast enough to play the keys.

However, I am now able to listen to the flow of the music that I make. I feel like I can control the flow of my emotions like how I can control the music. The notes feel like my own heartbeats, heartbeats that I can play however I want. It amazes me how music just without words or literal meaning can move and change a person so much. Being able to play and appreciate piano music are wonderful skills that I will strive to never lose. Although it was a struggle for me to learn how to play the piano at first, it has helped me get through life so many times, and I am so grateful for it. If you haven’t already, find something that you have a burning passion in your heart and it will help you get through anything in life.
