My Art Journey

I was organizing my room and I came across a stack of drawings I’ve made over the years. As I looked through the pile, memories flooded back. I always enjoy looking at how the work of other artists enhances over time. I thought it would be fun to share a little about my artistic experience.

Art has been a journey for me these past couple of years. I started drawing seriously in the year of 2018 when I was ten years old. The first artwork I drew on my first sketchbook was female anime characters because I was a big fan of anime. I remember how I was so proud of this artwork and I looked at it every day, not believing I could draw something like that.

Growing up, I loved to draw and what inspired me the most was watching anime shows. It encouraged my interest in art. I remember one time, there was a stack of white paper in the printing machine and I would steal all of it. Then, I proceeded to draw on each sheet of paper, front to back, until it was all gone. I love wasting paper. 🙂

There weren’t any art classes in my middle school that I could take and I didn’t pursue any art courses outside of school, but I drew when I could in my spare time. Soon, I was drawing and coloring at every opportunity I could get, including all over my math homework which wasn’t a great idea. When I turned it in, my math teacher deducted points from me, but I still liked what I drew (coincidentally, her name was Karen).

2019- Alcohol Markers

A few years back my cousin bought me a pack of alcohol markers on Christmas day. I was skeptical about using the markers because I didn’t know how to use them yet. However, it would be a waste if I threw them away, so I watched YouTube videos on how to use alcohol markers. My first drawing with alcohol markers was of an anime character. During the process, I was so scared of ruining the art piece, but I fell in love with the markers because they made my drawing look amazing. From that day forward, I used alcohol markers a lot more in everything that I drew.

2021/2022- Testing out Acrylic Paint and painting landscapes

It was around this time that I tried out acrylic paint because I wanted to try something new. In addition, I wanted to paint something different that challenged my skills so I chose mountain landscape scenery. I expected painting landscapes to be more difficult because I’d never done it before. What surprised me was how quickly I learned to paint, and how well the piece turned out. I would like to explore more scenic landscapes in my pieces as well.

2023- Current Art Projects

Over the past few months, I felt a little lost regarding what I wanted to draw or paint. The new school year just started, so I want to focus on my studies a little more. When I’m ready to come back to making art, I want to work on a big painting of a church, or a serene shrine, and experiment with different scenery. 😉
