Knowing which friend is trustworthy is difficult to find. Like how in the play Othello the character Iago was a very untrustworthy friend by deceiving all his friends to get what he wanted. Also like Dante’s Level of Hell an untrustworthy friend would be greedy, so they would be put into Circle IV making them push rocks for eternity. Most people would want to find a friend who they can count on, but some people don’t help their friends because “the main focus of people is themselves”. From my experience you may have a hard time figuring out if your friends are trustworthy, but eventually you will find out if they are or not. I had a friend who I didn’t trust as much because I wasn’t a person who would trust someone right away, but then he showed me that he was a loyal friend. After that I started to trust him.

         It is difficult to find out if your friends are trustworthy, but one way to find out a friend is trustworthy is to test their loyalty. A true friend would stick by your side, but If he doesn’t do that then it is most likely that he will leave you in your darkest moments. A loyal friend is someone you should have because they will help you through tough times, and they would always have your back.

         Respect is a big topic in friendship. A friend who respects you should be valued because they are the friends that would comfort you if you are in a bad situation. A friend who doesn’t respect you would bring you down to your lowest point. Respect should be taken seriously in a friendship because they can show you if your friends are trustworthy or not.

          In a friendship the truth is something everyone should do. Friends should tell each other the truth, so they can know how they really think about something. Telling the truth can be bad and hurtful, but the truth can hurt. Lying to someone is bad in a friendship because if you lie to a friend or a friend lies to you it gives the other person false hope. They would have confidence in what they are doing, but in reality they are embarrassing themselves.

          Helping a friend out without getting in return is something good in a friendship. If your friend helps you, and asks for something in return shows that your friends always want to get something out of you. A true friend would help without expecting anything in return. Help shows how you care for someone, and if your friend can’t do that he is not trustworthy at helping you.

          These are some of the things that should be kept in mind when in a friendship because these topics can be shown with your friends. You would never know who you can trust because anyone can turn their backs on you, even your closest friend. Respect should be repaid with respect because it is a give and return. A true friend will always catch you when you fall.
