Why Trust Must Be Valued

Have you ever trusted someone with something very important, and they turn your back on you? Being backstabbed is one of the worst feelings that has your thoughts spinning around in your head like a ballerina performing a pirouette. You begin to question all your decisions, and really wonder how such a thing could happen. This is an example of why trust must be valued in a deeper way. If you aren’t careful of who you trust, betrayal will become an everyday reality.

Showing lack of value to trusting other people can ultimately end up hurting you. In the play “Othello,” written by William Shakespear, it is shown many times in which characters are caught backstabbed by others due to the fact that they put all their trust into someone else. In act 1, Scene 3, Roderigo puts his trust into Iago and is therefore backstabbed as Iago tells Roderigo that Desdemona will give him a chance if he starts listening to Iago (line 411). This is all apart of Iagos plan, and he has taken advantage of Roderigo. This shows an example of how Roderigo shouldn’t be trusting Iago because at the end of the day, Iago is trying to hurt Roderigo. This is one reason why trust must be valued more than it is… due to the fact that putting trust into someone can end up hurting you.

Trust should also be valued more due to the fact that trust provides a sense of safety and security to one who can trust. Everyone feels better knowing that they have someone they can trust, kind of like a security blanket. This is similar to how Joe Rosenberg of the mojave phone booth just “kept thinking about it” and talked about how his obsession with the phone booth got him “into its clutches.” To him, the phone booth was his security blanket that he used to sleep at night. Calling the phone booth was a routine in his life. When you have the feeling of trust to someone, you feel as if they are your security blanket, and you know you can always rely on them as someone to talk to. This is important when it comes to the value of trust because being able to talk to someone can help when you feel lonely, and when you feel like you have no one to talk to.

Lastly, trust should be valued more because trust creates good cooperation and relationships. When people trust each other, they create good chemistry and cooperation which leads to healthy relationships. When people are untrustworthy, it can result in trust issues. In severe cases, when men become extremely angry, they begin to get physical and lay hands on their spouses “because they suspected infidelity.” Trust can really bring out the anger in a person, and is a trigger to domestic abuse. This is why trust must be valued more than it is.

All in all, trust is something that is bigger than it seems. Trusting the wrong person can lead to issues, and not trusting the right person can also lead to issues. The easiest way to put your trust into someone is by building connections, and taking your time to see if they are trustworthy.
