Complete the Beat

The harmonies driven into our time have the composition that resonates in the minds of everyone, telling them to rise up. Since I was little I have consistently been surrounded by people who shared a love for music. This love formed a meaningful bond between them and then me. I always thought it was a little strange because I knew so many old songs that my dad made me listen to. I never understood why my dad surrounded me so many different songs, I just figured that he just had a bad taste in music. Now, I understand his wisdom. I think he wanted to teach me how to keep an open mind and have the ability to view things from different perspectives. Learning metaphors more in depth has also led me to an explanation of his views as I learned that connections between things that seemingly had no connections can be made.  His wisdom continues to influence the genre and array of music that I listen to. Some songs I like are More Than a Feeling, The Joker, Dancing In the Dark, Dancing with Myself ,Tainted Love/ Where Did Our Love Go? . Personally I love music because I enjoy communicating with others and what better way to communicate than music. Music is the shared language for people globally and proves languages obsolete. It isn’t just a way to communicate thoughts, but also someone’s feelings on a deeper level that words couldn’t comprehend. It is also a powerful tool and it can enlighten, encourage, uplift, motivate, and many other things. Music is a magical and mysterious force that has been and will continue to be in our lives. It is strange how music has the influence to separate, connect, and change people. Music is simple “It’s just the connection, we all have stories” Music is built into us naturally and is the universal language of the Earth. From the threatening thunderclaps that loom, to the friendly chirps of birds singing the morning melody Earth conveys its feelings through music. Connections in life are the most important things that people can make, and music connects every person from every cultural background.

While the importance of music is unquestionable some misconceptions must be heard and avoided. Under the inspection under a fine lens, music actually becomes less recognizable, and the seriousness obscures its true essence. With that let me cover why listening to music should be enjoyed without any seriousness. Though music may contain flow like many works of poetry, prose, and other writing styles it cannot be viewed like those types of writing as they have much finer meaning hidden in the depths of similes and symbols where music also has literary elements but, it also is more about the bigger picture of the song. I remember when I first began playing music. I had just started playing the flute, and it was very difficult to start. I remember how I tried to get the rhythms perfectly and took the music very seriously. It has been 5 years since then and I do everything I can to avoid this pitfall. I get so much more out of enjoying the music I play and playing around with the music I’m given and twisting it into new melodies. I understand why some may take music seriously but it still bugs me. I want everyone to enjoy the beauty that music brings, and when it’s driven from seriousness there is a lack of emotion and there’s essentially none of the underlying theme of the song portrayed. This is further exemplified when a clown for the story Othello says “general so likes your music, that he desires you, for love’s sake, to make no more noise with it.“ This shows how Othello the clown is directing these words from reacts very seriously to the music being played outside which inhibits him from enjoying the music they’re providing. While music carries a package of joy it is best served when the artist is performing with his joy and an open heart. By leaving out the unnecessary seriousness we see the true beauty of music shine through and then the portrayal of its meaning may then be made by these beams of simple yet beautiful compositions.
