How Deeply Liking Someone Affects You

Butterflies flutter around, except when it is raining. Teens happen to be like butterflies when having deep feelings. One raindrop and the butterfly goes down. As a teenager myself, this is a sight I see every now and then. It may be from my friend, or the kid next to me in my Spanish classroom, but there’s one thing I know for sure. Their crush has them in a tight hold. That one saying everyone hears about, “they give me butterflies,” may actually be true, but instead, they are the butterfly. It’s only a matter of time before the rain starts to pour and they fly straight into it.
It’s only when you know or feel like your crush doesn’t like you back is when you start to act out or become immensely sad. Othello portrayed his emotions physically by cursing out his own wife for believing that she didn’t want him anymore and that she was cheating. This even led him to blindly take his own wife’s life for no reason. Othello exclaims, “By heaven, I saw my handkerchief in ’s hand! O perjured woman, thou dost stone my heart And mak’st me call what I intend to do,” (Act V Scene II Line 78-80). Othello feels as if he was betrayed and took action which turned into unfortunate events. Othello demonstrates his unreasonable measures just because he believes that Desdemona, his wife, doesn’t love him back.
Butterflies are attracted to flowers like people are attracted to other people. Attachment is one of the most known effects on people who want someone they can’t have. They find any chance to fulfill their fantasy with that specific person. This effect was what Doc experienced with his Mojave phone booth. He found an attachment to the phone booth which was very unlikely to work again, but he persevered either way hoping something would happen. I always hear about hopeless love and that people are holding onto a thread that’s about to snap, but they still want to hold on until it fully breaks. The damage that this does to someone’s health is worse than people may think as heartbreaks are very common, especially amongst the younger generation. Attachment is also a bad mentality as some may think that their special someone revolves around them and only them. Essentially, this shows how selfish one can be when attached.
Honestly, butterflies have nothing to do with this section other than the fact that we know butterflies are all about flowers and nectar. I believe that making a person someone’s whole personality is one of the cringiest and annoying things someone can do. Circle II of Dante’s Inferno is where I think people belong who act like this. Although less serious than what the actual Circle punishes people for, it becomes repetitive over time and honestly tiring. If someone was this deep into another person and they talked about them every day, I’d find myself trying to escape the conversation. It is only until someone tells them about this problem that they realize how far they are across the line of liking someone.
Butterflies are insects capable of avoiding threats that come their way. Rain, however, hinders a butterflies ability to fly to move on. When wet, butterflies must wait until their wings have dried off before taking flight again. As time passes, people learn to “stay out of the rain” and not place themselves in situations where they’ll eventually get hurt. If lucky, those who stay out of the rain don’t have to experience the effects of deeply liking someone.
