Lying is a double-edged sword.  Lying can help you in a short time period but will eventually come out and get you from the back. Lying is the basic idea of manipulating other people’s perspectives. For example, Iago lies about many things but to specify one thing it would be that he lied or manipulated Rodrigo to get his money.  He distorted his thoughts and he “promised ” that he would get the money and jewelry to Desdemona. He made Rodrigo think that he was giving her this jewelry to make her love him, that was what Iago let him picture in his head. But in the end that wasn’t true.

Lying can also have destructive repercussions. Using Rodrigo as an example again, in the end, he DIES. Now that is very extreme but still, it can have devastating outcomes depending on the severity of the lie and how long it goes on. Using Iago, when we look at his lies, they were masterfully crafted, and then look at the aftermath of his destruction everyone suffered in his hands. His wife died, Othello died, Desdemona died, Rodrigo died, and many were injured or heartbroken.  Each lie he made, made others hurt each other or kill each other or even make people not trust in others. Now Iago was the worst of the worst, but still, a small lie to another small lie will add up to become one big lie, and we can even do this without even noticing. When we get in trouble we automatically try to think of a way out so we unconsciously use a lie, but then it can lead to someone else getting in trouble instead of you or you getting in more trouble for lying. Sadly this is the truth.

There are many temptations that could trigger a lie, but we mustn’t. Lying is bad, duh, but that can be hard so we must think, How can we not lie? There are many ways but I think the best way is to see if the lie is a small lie or a big lie. If it’s a small lie then you should not say it because it’s not that big deal, and if it’s a big lie then you should ALSO tell the truth because it’s something that you did wrong and you should take responsibility. If you’re lying to a friend then you shouldn’t do it in the first place but if you are then you should at least try to word your response to say that you don’t know (Still not good but it’s better than nothing).
