We interact with hundreds of people but don’t realize it. The majority of us talk every day and don’t think anything of it. Have you ever considered how what we say or do affects someone in their life? Often we don’t take people’s feelings and thoughts into consideration. Not everyone expresses their feelings the same way so we don’t know what happens behind closed doors.
Everyone has different ways of expressing how they feel whether it’s talking about it, drawing, writing, and sadly some hold it in. You have to create a good space with someone for them to be vulnerable with their feelings but to do that you have to treat them well. Though we all make jokes with each other and even though we are just kidding some people take it to heart. In the Mohjave Phone, it stated: “All he wanted was someone to talk to”. This shows the loneliness people go through and how it affects them. Even though he knew no one ever picked up he never gave up. Finally, at the end, someone picked up the phone it gave him the company that he’d been seeking. That one interaction with the local lady gave him what he’s been wanting which is just someone to talk to.
Doing something nice and simple can affect someone but also when you are constantly irritating them. In the play Othello, Iago constantly tries to bother Othello trying to convince him his wife is cheating and isn’t interested in him. This made it so Othello wasn’t pleased with Iago’s presence. Their interaction, threw Othello off and confused whether or not Iago was being honest. The confusion on whether or not Iago was being honest affected Othello’s trust in Iago.
In the song lyrics of Shoes, the theme was based on the quote, “One just feels privileged and esteemed Inwardly serene and spiritually clean” which shows that they find themselves higher and validate their wrongs. They weren’t thinking of their actions and how they could’ve affected his families and friends and that what they were doing was wrong. All they tried to do was validate their wrongs instead of being thoughtful of other people’s feelings. They found him as a threat when in reality they were the real threat due to their choices.
