Red Envelopes

As I walk into the room, a cloud of warmth surrounds me, and the cacophony of laughter consumes me. A comforting feeling

In the middle, there sits an old man at a table, holding a paper sheet with six different animals

And on the floor, his small grandchildren, moving in every direction, stumbling over each other.

Each child carrying their red envelopes, filled with two dollar bills

Each kid, placing their bets on one of the six animals and rolling a die, eager to earn a quick buck

Then, our grandma enters the room, carrying crystals bowls of pho, and handing them to us

Dropping everything, the children, hungry from all the games, scarf down the bowls of rice noodle

The mothers and fathers are happily singing their hearts out doing karaoke,

When the entire family is happy, It’s going to be a good year.
