After I woke up, I felt strange. My body did not feel like my own. I looked around at the house I once knew and loved and realized it was empty. I felt like I was floating. I look down at my feet to see my once-grounded body levitating barely above the floor.
“This can’t be” I audibly mumble to myself.
“Yesterday, the house was full of life with me included, what could have happened?” I say once more.
I float around my once humble abode and consider some possibilities. Maybe I have been a ghost my entire life, and I have been deluded into thinking I was ever human. This thought enters the back of my mind as I float around the rest of my house where I discover my body.
“Okay, so I was alive recently and I passed away, why have I not gone and passed on yet? I need to figure out what to finish in my life.”
I travel around my now old house and see my dog, Maui, sitting and crying in the darkness. She has no water or food, and her bones are like pencils. At first, I tried to lead her out of the house, in an attempt that she would be able to get food. Maui cannot see me, so that plan fails. I realize I can interact limitedly with the objects in the house, so I grab her food and fill her bowl. Maui looks up at me, and I feel my body and soul become one with the sky as I float to a greater infinity.
“I completed my task and know, I can pass on,” I said.
A surprising move– Fictional

“Mom, do we have to move?” I say angrily. She lost her job leading us to be forced to move out of our house into a new one. “Honey we do not have a choice…you might like it here, but it will be a change of pace.” I roll my eyes and continue to pack. The moving truck arrives and we enter thinking about the new house.
#
We arrived at the house and I was surprised by all the new people there. I smell some barbecue as I exit the truck and my mind wanders off from unpacking. The green, well-taken-care-of yard excited me as the miniature grill on their driveway cooked. I began to walk over to see my new neighbors cooking the most delicious food I had ever smelled. I get up the courage and begin to say hello.
“Hello,” I say shyly.
“Hi!” says the new neighbor “You must be our new neighbor, I saw you staring at our barbecue in awe haha.”
Embarrassment comes across my body in a wave “Oh-h yea I am sorry, I just wanted to introduce myself and see what you guys were cooking.”
“Oh hello!” I hear a distant voice call “I am Murrary and this is my cousin John, are you in that little yellow house over there?”
“Yes,” I say suddenly.
“I have always loved that little house, I am so happy someone bought it.” exclaims John “Anyways would you like to know what we are cooking?”
I nod my head in agreement and John and Murray begin to discuss this new dish, Turkish shish kebabs.
“It is marinated lamb cooked with different vegetables on a stick, we chose eggplants and tomatoes this time, but sometimes we also use onions. Have you ever tried this?”
“No, it does look really good though, sorry if this is rude but, could I have one?”
“Of course!” shouts Murray as he hands me a kebab.
My mouth explodes with flavor as I continue to eat this kebab. Afterward, I talked with John and Murrary about where we used to live and I told a couple of stories. They were content having me there and eventually, I returned home to my mom discussing the house.
“I understand your disappointment in moving, but I think you will like this neighborhood”
“You’re right mom, I think this neighborhood is great!”
The Whispers– Fictional

Whisper, whisper, whisper. The whispers get louder the more you think about it. No matter how long I have been in this group I am always left out. The last to know about a new partner. The last to know about an unfortunate situation. The last to know everything.
My friends and I are sitting at our usual table. The wind picks up, setting an odd mood throughout the group. The only sounds that are heard are the howls of the wind and the silence of awkwardness between us. Bethany, my closest friend, pulls her phone out and looks at Alyssa. They giggle as they text on their phones, but why don’t they just talk to each other? I feel glances from both as they continue to laugh, making me wonder what they are discussing. Am I the topic? Am I being made fun of to my face and have no idea? My thoughts were becoming irrelevant as I heard Bethany start to talk, “Guys sleepover at my house..again?” They all share a glance at each other as they all nod no and look at me. I guessed that I was not invited to this “sleepover” and started to get up and pack my things.
I stuck around too long. I hoped that someone there would change. I hoped they would not all be the same and talk when I was right there. I hoped for my old friends back.
The struggles of growing up-fictional
NINETY9LIVES ALBUM COVER BY EVGENIY YUDIN
When Katie was younger she wanted to grow up. She wanted to drive cars and live as a teenager. Because of this, she never appreciated her youth. She was forced to grow up too soon.
She looked at the kids on the playground and wished that was her. Growing up is not fun. Katie did not want to be an adult. Katie did not want to go to college. Katie wanted to go back to her youth.
She looked at her peers in school and not even five years ago would they imagine they got to this point. Understandably, teenagers aren’t smart. In between too young and not old enough, stupid decisions are made. Katie always heard how “life is a big lesson” but she never heard how “growing up was the big lesson”
Our Insecurities– fictional

“Look at her,” Charlie says to her friends as this breathtaking red-haired woman walks beside us. “Her hair is so shiny, I want her hair color,” says Marcy. “Wow her curls..I wish my hair could curl like that,” says Sandy.
The girls continue to walk around the open mall, admiring the scenery and different stores inside. Marcy and Sandy soon forget about the women as they go home and tell their parents all about their shopping trips.
“Mom, Mom look what I got today!” Charlie says excitedly as she shows her parents the Lego set and multiple shirts she bought. Each of the shirts was a darker color and was cropped. “Wow honey, you should go try those on for us and give us a fashion show.” Charlie’s mom laughs mockingly. Charlie jokingly rolls her eyes and walks across the hallway to her room to try on the different shirts. First, she puts the black cropped shirt on, her eyes light up in exhilaration as she smiles.
“Oh honey I was being facetious, do not wear that shirt out of the house.” Charlie gets taken aback as the words her mom says get stuck into her brain.
“Why Mom? I like this shirt.” Charlie says
“It’s a cute shirt, just not on you, maybe go try something else on that’s not cropped?”
After hearing that a tear trickles down her face and she silently walks back to her room. She wanted to impress her mom her entire life, but all her mom did was give her insecurities.
