Born To Be Together

“There is nothing more ridiculous than being born in this world to be alone. Someday you will meet brave friends who will protect you.”

Jaguar D. Saul, One Piece

Paul has a very strong and brotherly relationship with all of his fellow classmen while he is in the army, as shown in many chapters of All Quiet on the Western Front. One such scene involves Paul and Kat hunting and eating a roasted duck, when while eating said roasted duck, Paul gets reminded of how much he cares and loves his good friend Katzinski, and how his friendship means so much more than even brotherly love. In another, where Paul is stuck in the crossfire, he gets motivated by what he thinks is his fellow soldiers looking for him and appreciates how tightly knit their group is, and even just the thought of their voices helps Paul get through this tough knot. These moments make me ask, how do good friendships make the quality of life better? How can only the thought of his fellow comrades’ voices propel a soldier out of a bombardment? How can just having a quick bite with someone you love to make someone go to tears? It is very fascinating how much we can care about people, even if they aren’t related in the slightest. It is very fascinating how much humans need to be with each other, and how our overall moods and personalities become brighter, happier, and better in general when we spend time with someone we care about. How even just the thought of someone you love can propel you to great lengths. It is fascinating, how we can be born in this world to be together, rather than alone.
