Power can corrupt people. It’s no secret, we’ve all heard it before, but it goes deeper than that. When someone wants power and will do anything for it, they’ll do anything to maintain it. This can be dangerous to the point where they use their power, not for the good of those affected by it, but simply for their benefit and the sake of power itself. It’s not often that those in a place of authority are there by pure chance, but by choice. Those who want it will take it over those who are indifferent. But it begs the question: If you aren’t willing to lose yourself to gain and maintain power, can you even be corrupted by it? And if so, can only those who don’t want power ever truly be responsible with it? Like any good question, it can send you down an endless spiral of even more questions. If only those who want it, take it, and only those who don’t, should have it, will we ever have an incorruptible leader? Is there even such a thing? Of course, as with anything, there are exceptions and more questions that can get quite confusing, but as with anything, it is worth considering. Power, and those with it, run the world and we have seen it time, and time again go bad. However, we have seen good things happen and leaders wildly considered to be “good”. Perhaps it’s just a question among millions of others that doesn’t have an absolute answer, but a question, nonetheless, for people to ask.
