Do some leaders enjoy the attention that war gives them?
Wars are never something that people enjoy participating in. War includes death, fright, and it is a very dark time for both sides of it. Now that is what the soldiers in the war face. For most leaders of these countries, they do not have to fight or put their lives at risk. They send the soldiers to do it for them. Inevitably, they always will have a target on their back, but they are not the ones defending it. I am sure that leaders do not like being in a war, but they do like to be involved. Since they are not at as much risk of death, war is almost like a publicity thing. War can be seen as a way of publicizing their countries, which includes their leaders. It gets their names in magazines, and definitely in the history books. As said in the book All Quiet on the Western Front, “Wars are useful for leaders who want to be in history books.” The idea of being remembered forever by generations to come might sound tempting for leaders, and for their legacy to be remembered.
What they do not understand is that not all attention is good attention. You may be remembered but for the wrong reasons. They should want to be remembered for a good cause, not thousands and thousands of deaths, casualties, and commotions. I agree that some wars are inevitable and were going to happen, but I believe that many deaths could have been avoided if some leaders realized what harm it was doing and stopped it, or at least did their best to.
