Legacy

Over the lifetime of earth, billions if not trillions of people have lived, breathed, struggled, and triumphed. Out of these billions of people, how many are remembered? Thomas Edison created electricity, world leaders fought wars and signed treaties, ancient civilizations are remembered through art and writing. These famous people that can be thought about are but a fraction of the people who have lived. This begs the question, “How will you be remembered?”

Everyone leaves a legacy. Their legacy can be remembered for ten years, or it could be remembered for 1,000. Some people live in the shadows their whole lives, just getting by. Some people choose the life of trial and glory. Some people choose to be a part of something that remembers them, like a soldier. Out of all the different ways to be remembered, “How will you be remembered?”

When someone leaves a legacy, it can be good or bad. Criminals leave a bad legacy, doctors leave a good legacy. Whenever we make a choice, it can leave an impact, good or bad. Most of the time we may not notice it, but every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Do we think about this before we make a decision? Usually not, but maybe thinking about this will change our actions. Nobody wants to be remembered in a bad way, essentially being hated forever. People want to be remembered in a good way. How will you be remembered?

Maybe being remembered isn’t about what you do, but about the people you meet and how you treat them. Art, money, writing, doesn’t always last forever or for very long. Relationships, memories, and stories can. When someone’s life is changed completely because of something someone did to or for them, they pass that on to their children, and their grandchildren, and so on. It branches out like a tree, touching so many people it’s hard to comprehend. If something is posted on social media today, millions of people might see it. This is what leaves a legacy. People. Who will remember you?
