Play therapy is provided to people of all ages and ethnicity. Not only can it be used to develop creativity and imagination, but it can also be used to express thoughts and feelings. No matter what age, play is provided in different ways with games, toys, and sports. It can take on the form of social, physical, and constructive. Because of its flexibility, play is seen everywhere in different aspects of life and has become a tool to show the backgrounds of a person to figure out what made them be the way that they are. This is why play has been commonly used in therapy to this day.

In play, people are able to communicate with actions, and this is especially important for those who are non-verbal or have trouble expressing themselves. For instance, if a person is seen as violent and negative, they inflict those emotions when playing. A child with disrespectful manners will tend to disrespect their toys and may include throwing and breaking them, just like how when athletes are nervous about a game, it will cause their performance to decrease in quality. If someone has trouble thinking creatively while playing, this might mean that their imagination as a child may not have been utilized as much. Although these can be reasonable, it is also important to know that automatically assuming might be misleading. These are just seen as common trends.
Not only is play important, but the quality of it also makes a big impact in human development. Play including creativity and imagination can lead to growth and improvement of human connections. I used to play with my sister with mini figurines that we had and dolls that were mysteriously found in the attic. Sometimes it also involved talking cups when we got frozen yogurt from Yogurt land. Different flavors would represent different personalities depending on which type of yogurt we got that day. Other times, we would even use the socks on our feet to imitate characters. Even though all these items were vastly different and merely just objects, the reason it was so enjoyable for my sister and I was because of our creativity and the limitless possibilities we could imagine.

Play therapy is able to be used as an opportunity to show beautiful and unique ideas that could not be easily executed in the real world with fun ways. Play therapy can be used to show alternative realities in which anything could be controlled. It could be a way of escapism and finding solutions to problems, especially to those who are experiencing troubles in their lives.
Play is an important part of not only growth, but also healing.
