School playday? inconsistent.

Giving students a day off from work, the unnecessary stress put on our shoulders, and an incessant amount of homework is a great idea in my opinion. Going out to play with friends and no electronics seems so relaxing. Drawing with Chalk, blowing bubbles, even as little as taking a walk can be such a relieving experience for any student.

One day, here I was sitting in one of my classes and i hear the teacher announce that we are allowed to go outside and play. I remember the excitement that flooded me, finally after a whole semester of stress, I can go out and forget all of that even if just for a while. I take my friend, we go outside, mesmerized by the number of things we can do. Play board games? Draw chalk figures? Play with bubbles? Walk around? Eat some popcorn? The list was endless. Just for that moment, I felt like a kid again; the stress lifting off of my shoulders again. Even if our time there was limited, every minute was worth it.

I think to myself, I can’t wait for the next play day, even if it was just one period. I go around and ask some of my friends from other classes, and it shocks me to hear that they haven’t gone out to play once..not even for one period. That saddens me, the fact that they did not get to experience the magic of play.

This makes me want to say something. say something about what the school does to implement this fun day, being able to participate in this fun day can be difficult whilst most of my teachers do not allow students to go outside and play claiming that there is too much work to be done. If our school community knows and understands our stress, why do they not let us go out to play? Sometimes all one needs is just to go out and play. I speak for the many students that have not experienced the ‘Baron Play Day’ at all, not even once. Does that not sound unfair? Our community talks infinitely about how students need a break, but once a solution is out there why is there no implementation?

Some teachers complain about how students are becoming less attentive, shorter attention spans, and sleep in class. They don’t realize that we never get the chance to play anymore, all our lives are built up on stress and we are tired.

Many teachers do not realize that due to the exceeding demands of this world, getting to play and undergo the feeling of being a kid again just for a few minutes can diminish plenty of troubles we, students, have.
