Comedy is the absolute best thing ever. What could be better than something that puts away bad feelings and overwhelms you with joy and laughter? Nothing is. To be funny is an art, and it is an art that is more appreciated than people realize. It is appreciated whenever someone laughs. One of my favorite types of comedy is when someone gets made fun of. This isn’t because it hurts someone’s feelings, but because it is easiest to understand a joke about a real thing, person, or group of people that are just weird.

It is always fun to watch a comedy movie. These movies can be funny in many different ways. It can be it’s own story where the characters make fun of each other, a recreated story with funny parts added in, or a story in which it makes fun of a real community or event. My favorite comedy movies are the ones that are based off of and make fun of real communities and events. One of the best examples is a movie called “Zoolander.” Zoolander is about a male model in his prime, on the front covers of countless magazines, the label for who knows how many beauty products, and recognized by everyone. The story is about a terrorist that brain washes male models to carry out crimes around the world. The reason male models are chosen is because they are very caught up in themselves and their appearance that they don’t realize anything else that goes on around them. This is demonstrated throughout the movie with Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson in comedic gold. Eventually they make a very sloppy attempt (due to their stupidity) to save the world and ultimately do, only because of a new look Derek Zoolander (Ben Stiller) had been working on for months, only to look slightly different from his other poses. It is things like this that make this movie so funny and enjoyable to watch. The modelling community is interesting to look at for someone that is not associated with it. Models are sometimes shown in interviews to lack intelligence, so a movie making fun of it is the perfect thing. It is not cruel, just purely funny.

Another good comedy movie is one that makes fun of an event. This movie is called “Blast From the Past.” It starts out in the 60’s when most people were paranoid Russia would bomb the USA. One of the main characters has a fallout bunker in his backyard that would last them thirty years of comfortable survival. One day when they were having a party, a plane crashed nearby, and they thought it was a nuclear bomb. He took his pregnant wife into the bunker and shut it off from the outside world. He could not open it for thirty years even if he tried. They raised their son for thirty years with him not knowing the outside world. After their time in the bunker was up, they sent their thirty years old son to scout out the city. The drastic change from the 60’s to 90’s made it seem like there really was a bomb, when really people and cultures just evolved and changed. The movie places most of its comedy in the son, who doesn’t really know how to interact since he grew up with his old-fashioned parents. As he tries to make it in the new world, laughter is abundant for those watching.

Comedy is needed in the world. Everyone has bad days. Everyone goes through hard times. Comedy helps one forget about those things for some time. Comedy should be easily accessible and well known because it just makes people feel good.
