The Day That Changed Bethany

January 12, 2020; My imaginary friend Bethany has been acting up lately, I am writing here to express my worry and concern for her wellbeing. I hope she is alright. She has been very secretive lately, always sleeping in or laying there underneath her blanket, my mom said she could be sick? Which I doubt, because she’s not real. Besides that, she always has this extreme want to go swimming all the time but the weather is too cold for that. Who knows she might be going crazy! Get this, she recently changed diets too, do you think that’s why she’s acting like this? All she eats is seafood, I hope the fish fumes don’t fumigate her brain and make her go crazy.

January 15, 2020; I think Bethany wet the bed… I went to wake her up this morning to give her breakfast but she was adamant in staying in bed, she was clinging on to the blanket for dear life. I looked down at her feet and saw a wet puddle, weird. I think she’s a little too old to be wetting the bed but I digress. She didn’t even eat her breakfast either! It was rude but to be fair I forgot she was a pescatarian, hopefully it’s just a phase.

January 23, 2020; It’s been a week and she’s still acting weird, it’s definitely not a phase. She’s always in bed with wet hair, I hope she knows that going to sleep with wet hair could make her sick. Who knows, she probably is sick based on how pale and green her skin is now, she looks ill. She refuses to eat anything I make her now. At first I thought it was my cooking but she won’t eat my moms cooking either. Bethany tells me she catches her own food, whatever that means.

February 3, 2020; After weeks of hiding secrets from me, Bethany revealed why she has been acting so odd recently. She claimed she was a mermaid, at first I thought that was just a lie to get me off her back but she was dead serious. She proceeded to show me her tail after jumping into our shared swimming pool, it was unreal. I had to pick my jaw off the floor to question what happened. She told me that at night she snuck off to the beach and was struck by lightning and woke up with weird symptoms like eating seafood and scales on her feet. I didn’t know getting struck by lightning could change your species into a fish but I digress. I don’t know how I feel about having a mermaid as a friend so I might sell her to scientists for research purposes. It’s for science so it can’t be that bad because this could potentially help people!
