FVHS has the tradition every school year to have 2 play days as a way to relieve stress and just have fun. It is a good idea because it allows people who are usually under a lot of stress from homework, extracurriculars, or other issues to forget about these problems and just play. However I believe that play day should either be mandatory, or removed entirely.

To me, play day is a paradox. This is because many teachers choose to continue teaching through play day because of the simple belief that “you are in an honors/AP class and you don’t need to play because you are hard workers.” I understand and do not think there is anything wrong with this sentiment. However it directly contradicts the entire purpose of play day which is to relieve stress for hard working students which are the honors and AP students. Yet when we promote both ideas it gives students more stress because it makes them think that they are slacking off when they are not working which in turn gives them more stress.

So while us honor students are inside working, there are some students out there playing who already slack off enough and do not deserve to play like people who work hard that do not get time to play. This is why by fairness, play day should either be removed or for everyone.
