The Little Gnome

From time to time he would appear in my life. It was always at the most important moments in my life. All of the milestones that I fondly remember, he would be there. It was a cold winter morning and I was six years old. Staring at my ceiling, I was pouting about how I didn’t have Heelys. Heelys were every kid’s dream, they were normal shoes with wheels on the bottom of them. They were meant to be used as a means of fast transportation and everyone that had a pair would zoom through the school going what looked to be thirty miles an hour. So of course I went to my mom begging her for money to buy my own pair of Heelys. Just like I thought she said no and said that I couldn’t even tie my shoes so how would I be able to handle a pair of shoes with wheels on them. So I devised a plan to rob the local shoe store.

With the plan in motion I entered the shoe store and asked the worker to try on a pair of Heelys. Once I put them on my feet I knew I could never take them off. As nonchalantly as I could I walked out of the store with my Heely’s on making sure there was no witnesses. I thought I was in the clear. Right when I was about to get away with theft I heard a buzz. My heart dropped into my stomach, I forgot the alarm. I turned around and saw every worker in the store staring deep into my soul. Right when I was about to give up I heard a voice shout, “RUN!” I looked down and it was a little gnome with a long white beard and a pointy red hat. He was coming to my rescue! I dashed out of the store gaining speed so I could coast out the mall and lose the workers who were on my tail. Apparently Heelys required a lot of skill and coordination. The next thing I remember I was in an ambulance rushed to the hospital with three missing teeth and a concussion. Supposedly I fell flat on my face and tumbled thirty feet. “Good try kid, you’ll get it next time.” I looked over to my right and there was the gnome. At that moment I knew we would become best friends.
