One can Remember such

Everyone remembers WW1 and the terrors that follow along. WW1 is a war of global conflict and it focuses on battles between the European nations. Many have studied WW1 and it even made it to history lessons to be taught by history teachers. The topic of WW1 is also featured in English classes even though it is based on history. The way English teachers teach a small portion of it is by having their students read and analyze war novels based on WW1. One of the great novels is, “All Quiet on the Western Front.” AQOTWF is written from the perspective of a German soldier telling a story about a German soldier named, Paul Baumer who fought and struggled in the war throughout the entire book.

The question focus that I chose to answer is, “Are the potato cakes the most important aspect of Paul’s mother?” In the part when Paul returns home to his family his mother mentions that his favorite dish is a potato cake. His mother has always cooked potato cakes for him to pack to war and she never gave up cooking despite her illness. When Paul thought about offering all of his potato cakes to the Russians, he realized that his mother must have been in great pain while cooking the potato cakes for him. Though he had no appetite for the potato cakes, he still ate some anyway knowing that the potato cakes were baked for him. Yes, the potato cakes must be an important aspect of Paul’s mother because the potato cakes are what reminded him of his mother during the harsh time of war.
