Every week I have a board meeting for my club, PAWS. We plan out the events for the meeting the following day. It can get very chaotic on call, so this was just one instance where I took a picture of my club members goofing off. 

I thought the video call boxes would make a very interesting comic panel, so I created a comic using this picture as a template. Since we were in a zoom meeting, this comic is about how school was during 2020 when we were all online. I drew this using procreate. Whenever I draw on my ipad, I’m constantly drawing and undoing my work, so it’s a trial and error process with designing the character and the different scenes. In the third panel, the profile picture is a cat with a mask on to signify that it’s during quarantine. However in the fourth panel, the cat is no longer wearing a mask since the character is eating. Finally in the last panel, her teacher appears very confused as her camera turns on to reveal she was sleeping during the lesson.

The second comic strip I made is based on one of the first pages in the graphic novel “They Called Us Enemy.” I drew this on paper, so as you can see I used different mediums. In the first panel, you can tell she looks hopeless, as she got kicked out of her home. But in the second panel it shows her crying, and you can now more closely see her emotions and how she’s feeling in that moment. You’ve only seen the back of George’s head up till now, but in the third panel, you see his face. His eyes are tearing up because he’s only now realizing he’s lost his home and he sees how heartbroken his mom is. 

In my rendition, it depicts a happier scene based off own experience. The first panel shows my little nephew, and he’s gifting me a bouquet of roses after my performance. And my friends are in the background being supportive. The second panel, I look so happy and I’m even tearing up. And the third panel shows my nephew, with his missing front tooth grinning ear to ear. Recently, I had a performance and I thought this photo that was taken was so cute, so I wanted to express how I was feeling in that moment through this drawing.
