A strange mountain

Only recently, have I realized that artwork comes in many different shapes and forms. You could go outside and see all sorts of shapes, but you never really notice them or take them into account. When it comes to art, those are the things that artists use to spark ideas and create new things.

Play Mountain is a concept that indulges me into a world where I couldn’t fathom the excitement. It seemed like never-ending fun. When I heard of Play Mountain through the podcast, I didn’t really get that much emotion since I was kind of bored in class. But as I am researching it more and more, I have realized it isn’t some silly building, it’s a man’s life and whole creation all into a single mountain.

When I was reading the bibliography of Isamu Noguchi, what really inspired me to write about him was that he wasn’t just in one place. Sure, of course, Noguchi could have just taken inspiration from his home, and with a brilliant talent for creating, he could make masterpieces. But the fact that he didn’t and traveled everywhere to show his art pieces and make a severe impact in countries just off his artwork. The beauty of Isamu Noguchi was he was able to take his surroundings and turn them into a beautiful sculpture for everyone to enjoy seeing.

But Noguchi wasn’t just getting inspired by the surroundings around him, but the people and things going on around him. Play Mountain is the best example of this. At the start, his creation was to bring his vision of a pyramid in Idaho into the experience of people in the city he lived in. But as he planned it out, he really sculpted it with what New York needed.

As a most developed city, New York is a service machine. With shops all around the corner and everything catered towards giving money for a service, there wasn’t really anything for kids to enjoy. Of course, there were parks once in a while, but I would even get bored of them since they were built all the same. Something extraordinary was needed in New York and Noguchi provided with building Play Mountain.

With the new addition of Play Mountain to New York, Noguchi was able to bring kids together as well as people from all around the world to admire his artwork. As for me, I would like to go there one day and see the masterpiece for myself.

Noguchi was a very talented individual who strived to make people admire such greatness. With each sculpture, he made people see the dedication he took to create such a masterpiece and touch people’s hearts. I wrote about Noguchi because he wasn’t just focused on making a complicated design or beautiful design, but on leaving a message to anyone who sees it and making people think about life a little differently.

These pictures were all from my photo album that I chose specifically because I thought it could make for an idea of one of Noguchi’s art pieces. I think if Noguchi was still around, he would take these pictures as inspiration to make a masterful art piece once again.
