Perspective in Comics–Behind The Scenes.

Perspective is a huge aspect in comics. Perspective allows you to show what you want to show and how you want to show it, the angle, where the subjects are, and what’s in the background. I made a two part comic to show different aspects about perspective.

Here is the first comic, which shows different perspectives as two cowboys meet in the center of a town for a showdown.

This comic was made on paper, and was inspired by an episode of the 99% Invisible podcast. I chose cowboys for the subject, as western movies often use a lot of perspective, like the intense close ups used often by director Sergio Leone.

The second part of the comic shows after the duel, with varying other perspectives like an over the shoulder shot, looking up to the birds, and close ups of the two. It draws various inspirations as well, the pose the cowboy on the ground in the first panel is in is inspired by Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball. As well, the dialogue and last two panels are both inspired by Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen.
