Governments origins were the attempts of people to gain more power over others. As we all know this is much different than today. Today the government is constitutional versus not too long ago when governments were exclusively monarchical. As education rose people thought that everyone should be given equal opportunity. With this idea in mind people rose in opposition to harsh governments, wishing for rights for all. This gave us a constitution and democracy. These forms of government were constructed to protect and preserve our rights. Although these forms of government were put in place to protect our rights and property, now these forms of government have evolved a greater taste for power causing the things we hold dear to not truly be protected.

Their are multitudes of examples of the taking of basic right after the formation of a constitutional government built on democracy. There are Japanese citizens during the war on the Pacific front that were subjected to their property being confiscated. In a comic, They Called Us the Enemy a politician by the name Richard B. Russel said “individuals who feel loyalty to the emperor…” “To renounce their citizenship”. This shows how powerful government figures in the U.S. sought to gain more with racial prejudice on a minority. Another example of taking rights or just downright ignoring them was during the “Palmer Raids” in World War I where “6,000 people arrested across 36 cities. Though 556 foreign citizens were deported, including a number of prominent leftist leaders” (https://www.history.com/topics/cold-war/palmer-raids). This was due to suspicions of a communist move in U.S. and shows how assumptions can hurt innocent people.
