Not The Brightest
Nolan and I aren’t the brightest. Whether that’s in school, at church, or even just talking to friends. We just can’t seem to get our brains to memorize or speak the right way. We don’t know if it’s because we can be shy or if it’s just because we are not the most put together. Everybody always assumes we’re friends because we both don’t know what we’re doing half of the time, but little do they know that he’s my brother. We don’t look very similar, his brown hair and brown eyes and my blonde hair and blue eyes. But once you get to know us, we act like the same person.
I came home from school one day to my Dad and Nolan arguing over some test that Nolan had at school. Nolan would keep saying that he didn’t know it was today, and my Dad would come back by saying why would your teacher not tell you about one of the most important tests of the school year. Nolan ended up storming up to his room and slamming the door shut. I decided to talk to my Dad and see what was happening and if I could help the situation. My Dad told me to just mind my own business and that I shouldn’t worry about it. When Nolan finally came down to talk with my Dad, I stopped him and told him to approach Dad very calmly and not get upset. They were able to both talk through what had happened and no one got mad or upset with anything the other person said. Little did I know that later that night, my Dad and I would be having a very similar argument about my History and English test grades.
Her Job
I’ve always wanted a job. Ever since I was little I’ve dreamed of making money and having fun while doing it. Even though I grew up babysitting for family and friends, I always wanted something more. Something consistent. Then I found it, the perfect job. Lifeguarding. I had an easy “in” because my brother had worked as a lifeguard at a nearby community pool all summer, but little did I know all of the training and responsibilities that came with the job. The weekend, I spent 12 hours learning CPR, First Aid, and all the different ways of getting people safely out of the pool.
On top of that, I had to learn it all from strangers! I thought that all of my training was over but I still had more at the pool where I would be working. A 2-hour course on where to find the keys, how to log your hours, where to get the equipment and so much more. But after that, all of my training was finally done. I could finally start working and making the money I had always wanted. Although I had to go through so many hours of hard work and training, I finally achieved my goal and met so many new people.
