Night means change for all of us. For some that may be to start brushing their teeth and getting ready, and for others that means just getting the day started with a club. But for Caroline’s dad, it means clocking in for his job. Mr. Chang works a night shift. His wife, or her mom, is almost never to be seen with him. She spends virtually all of her days on a nursing home bed, in a comatose state, only seeing her husband and child on Sundays when they come to visit after church. “Inhumane,” their neighbors think. A man partially abandoned his wife and now his only kid. “Inhumane,” they would think, unaware that Mr. Chang had finally found a job that could pay his wife’s medical expenses. Working the night shift meant big changes for Caroline. Just being the two of them, she was unable to stay by herself every night when her dad left at 9PM. Little did she know, her life would never return to what it was that day.
