Troublesome Tutoring Times and Wealth and Warnings

Troublesome Tutoring Times

My first real job was a math tutor where I was paid 15 dollars an hour. If I tutored her for 5 hours a week, how much money did I make in the 4 months I tutored her? The answer is less than 200 dollars. Math can be confusing. My student hated getting tutored by me so much that she refused to get out of the car when she would come over to my house. More often than not, our “tutoring sessions” would happen in the backseat of her minivan. Our setting, on top of her neurodivergent brother next to us, didn’t create the most productive learning environment. Needless to say, she still failed despite my best efforts as a teacher.

Wealth and Warnings

Where do the rich live? In large mansions with security guards, or maybe a secret island no “regular” person knows about. My house stands next to someone who has an abundance of wealth through real estate, and another who runs their own law firm. However, I also live next door to a “regular” family of three. They had the same home as our local celebrity, only cameras hidden in the bushes of their well-kept front yards were exposed on more than one occasion. When the trio first moved in, they brought us welcome pastries and complemented our home decor. Little did they know their decorations would consist of yellow caution tape. My old classmate resided in that same house just a few months prior. This never happened when it was her occupying the home. “The new neighbors are scary people,” I tell her as I remember the police cars lined up on my sidewalk.
