Activity #1 Elevator Pitch a Graphic Novel from MackinVIA Tuesday 2/21

The Graphic Novel The Breadwinner is a heart-aching story of a father and daughter who live in the Middle East. The father is arrested by the Taliban and the daughter who isn’t allowed outside in the Market must dress as a boy to provide for her family. Reading this story really makes you realize how lucky we are to have freedom and it really makes you feel/empathize with the young girl in the story. The story makes you hang on the edge of your seat wishing that the girl succeeds in her goals which makes you want to keep turning the page.

If you don’t believe me on how great the graphic novel is then trust the many awards the novel has won such as Lost Angeles Film Critics Association Award for Best Animation and the Toronto Film Critics Association Award for Best Animated Feature. It was also nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture.

The book shows and deals with problems that are happening in the world every day in other countries, but people don’t care to even recognize or do anything about it. The book portrays life in these other countries where there is constant war, harassment, and much worse. The books should give you a better understanding of how life is in other countries and open your eyes to what you don’t hear about on mainstream tv.
