Playtime? Sure why not.

Daily writing prompt
Do you play in your daily life? What says “playtime” to you?

With so many different things to do everyday– hobbies, self development, competition, and rest– “playtime” has become almost indistinguishable. For me, videogames are the most fun and most effortless thing to reward myself with. So, I could say online gaming is my playtime. However, I should be cautious around describing it that way, because oftentimes I find it perfectly reasonable to call it “running away from work.”

When I can call it as such, it is because I should not be playing at the time, and instead, I should be working. When I can call it “running away from work,” I am putting off other important things in order to play video games.

It’s really about the schedule. If I didn’t schedule to play videogames, it would fall under the harmful category. But if I planned to set a little time aside– thirty minutes, or an hour or so– to reward myself with videogames after a productive day, I can proudly consider that beneficial playtime.

When school comes around, I am able to turn hobbies such as art and music into playtime. Really, it’s whatever is the most stimulating activity in the day. Sometimes I can do without playtime for the day. But during the break, there is actually time for video games, and hobbies aren’t forced, so videogames make it to the top. Work hard & play hard.
