There’s one thing I look forward to the most each year. Although I love Christmas and other major holidays, it doesn’t compare to summer vacation for one reason. Each year during the summer, my family and I, along with my dad’s closest friends, all go on a major trip together. It never disappoints, I always have the best time, and together we create very memorable and fun memories. Every trip is different in its own way, whether it’s the food, the culture, or even the environment. Either way, we all have a good time and try to make the most out of the little time we have to enjoy the unique country or state we visit.

When I step out of the airport, the feeling of excitement floods my body. The humid and warm air immediately greets my body. As if I’ve just stepped off of a spacecraft and entered a new planet, like in the short video Scavengers. Everyone is speaking in another language and all the signs too. It’s like I’ve entered a new world because everything is foreign and unfamiliar to me. It’s similar to entering a strange environment on a different planet with different species of insects, animals, and even plants.

We then take a car to our hotel or resort to get ourselves checked in. There’s something about resorts and hotels that fills me with awe every time. The way that it’s decorated so luxuriously and beautifully and also all the cool features that they have to offer. Once we’d received our rooms, we would rest for a while after a tiring day of being at the airport and plane ride. After all, we need to recharge if we want to be able to have enough energy to explore the resort, town, or even local areas. After a nice nap, we get ready to go out to find something to eat and tour the popular attractions. We usually like to visit a popular town nearby to look for something to eat because that’s where all the good local foods are located and where it’s very lively and busy with people. Walking around town immediately reminds me of a scene from the movie, Spirited Away. Shops and restaurants along the road, decorated with colorful lights that illuminate the streets. This makes the atmosphere more enjoyable and welcoming to all tourists and visitors.

As the days pass, we continue to visit places and have a good time. However, we are too busy having fun and going places that we don’t even realize that our trip is almost over. I guess the saying is true, time does fly when you’re having fun. Just like in the poem I read called A Rhyme for Halloween. Comparable to my situation, the protagonist in the poem was exploring a town and noticing many things. But without realizing it, time had passed a lot. The next thing I know, it’s already the night before we have to go back. I would lay in bed, reminiscing about all the things we’d done during the trip and thinking about how I don’t want to go back. The morning approached and the time to say goodbye to the resort and country has come. Hours passed and I finally arrived at my house. Home sweet home. I showered and got dressed for bed. What a great trip, I’m already looking forward to next summer.
