The Murders in the Rue Morgue, is a book by Edgar Allan Poe that is all about crime, mystery, and thrillers. Many of Poe’s stories are filled with mystery and horror, and is an introduction for high school literature. I have memories in freshman year listening to The Tale Tell Heart and being so invested in the story. Poe is one of my favorite authors with how interesting and investing the story is.
In this book it is murder mystery of Madame L’Espanaye and her daughter who were found dead in their home. The setting is in Paris, France where a man C. Auguste Dupin tries to solve the mystery. This story will have the reader on the edged of their seat, trying to figure out who the murderer is.
The theme of the story as Edgar Allan Poe has said, “its theme was the exercise of ingenuity in detecting a murderer.”. There are many red herrings in the story. C. Auguste Dupin tries to help the falsely accused suspect by finding the murderer.
This story is an amazing read, and should be on everyone’s must read lists. The story is interesting and will have you on the edge of your seat!
